Job Title: Analyst, Credit Market and Economic Policy
Division: Finance Risk and Prudential Policy
Location: Toronto

Overview

Reporting to the Director, the Analyst is primarily responsible for the collection, compilation, organization, performing quality control and correction functions, and analyzing data regarding the financial services industry, primarily for the production of banking industry benchmarking reports. The Analyst will actively engage members to ensure these processes remain accurate and the reports are reflective of the banking industry. The Analyst is also expected to assess trends and perform analysis in the data collected to develop briefing notes, messaging, publications, submissions, fact sheets, speeches and other forms of advocacy.

Description of Responsibilities:

  • Be a primary resource for benchmarking reports and a secondary resource for CBA advocacy efforts;
  • Perform regular updates, which include co-ordinating with members to input data into banking industry databases and benchmarking reports in order to produce regular and timely benchmarking reports;
  • Be able to analyze, evaluate, validate, manipulate and cross-reference data;
  • Assist CBA staff in conducting surveys, from the development stage through to the collection and dissemination of the results;
  • Utilize departmental procedures to ensure the confidentiality, integrity and consistency of the data collected;
  • Co-ordinate and participate in meetings with bankers to address concerns relating to data quality;
  • Act as a banking statistics expert on cross-divisional project teams addressing issues of current concern to the industry; and,
  • Provide timely research to CBA staff and member banks to assist in addressing issues relating to the banking industry.

Key Qualifications, Abilities and Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in Business or Economics;
  • Exceptional numeracy, quantitative, analytical and research ability including the ability to think critically;
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Access;
  • Knowledge of and interest in the banking and wider financial services sector is important;
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently;
  • Complete attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal/communication skills as the incumbent must deal with bank members on a regular basis;
  • Ability to present information concisely;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles is useful;
  • Experience in the financial services industry, completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and a working knowledge of French are all desirable qualifications.
